How do you update a historic home while keeping its charm? Just ask En Masse Architecture and Design who recently rehabbed a narrow, three-story Chicago workers cottage for designer Mollie Code. A light palette and expanded first floor bring the living, dining, and cooking spaces together. Semihandmade’s DIY Slab fronts painted in Farrow & Ball’s Subzero, a warm beige, keeps the cabinetry from reading too stark, plus it complements a custom walnut worktop and adjacent green DIY Slab bar. Upstairs, Semihandmade walnut fronts and a green tile backsplash combine for a spa-like bathroom.
