Creating Your Stylish Bathroom with Ikea Sektion Kitchen Cabinets

Creating Your Stylish Bathroom with Ikea Sektion Kitchen Cabinets
Sep 11. 2019

Getting creative with Ikea storage doesn’t end with door fronts and hardware (although that’s a great place to start, of course). In fact, we’ve recently spotted an out-of-the-box trend using Ikea kitchen cabinets that we can’t get enough of. Some of our innovative clients are opting to use Ikea’s classic Sektion line (traditionally for kitchens) in their bathroom projects, in lieu of the company’s bathroom-specific Godmorgon and Hemnes lines.

We love this idea for a number of reasons — if you have the square footage, the Sektion collection is more spacious than other options, and can be cut to suit your needs. The combination of cabinets alongside drawers of multiple sizes is a plus for stashing and organizing washroom essentials, while the endless options of fronts and finishes from our Semihandmade cache allow you to fully realize your ideal aesthetic.

Ready to start your bathroom re-do? We’ve put together some of our favorite client projects using Ikea kitchen cabinets in the bathroom, and we think you’ll love this concept as much as we do. Read on for inspiration.

Leave it to tastemakers Emily Henderson and Samantha Gluck to take this concept and run with it. This design duo created a gorgeous floating bathroom vanity with a Sektion base, combining cabinets and drawers for maximum storage. The wooden hardware adds a unique element, while the white door fronts maintain a classic feel.

This client’s master bathroom is a lesson in sleek modernity. Creating a double vanity with drawers and cabinets, they utilized the spacious Sektion collection with our Semihandmade Tahoe impression doors, adding a wood-toned element to the otherwise dual-tone space. Finished with linear black handles, this accent ties in perfectly with the bathroom’s additional hardware, black tile wall, and light fixture details.

Even if you prefer the look and function of simple drawers for your washroom vanity, this space proves that Ikea’s Godmorgon collection is not your only option. This double sink set-up designed by Terri Glanger features a neutral-tone spa-vibe with our DIY Slab fronts painted in a soft beige color. The brass fixtures and tile add stylish texture, and the eye-catching modern tub finish the look.

This Semihandmade client truly customized their Sektion purchases to make this bathroom all their own. They had the boxes cut down to suit the space, and selected a small undermount sink to fit into the top drawer. The bottom two drawers are used for storage, and the marble top and shelving were custom built. The finish of our Tahoe drawer fronts plays perfectly with the black and white color scheme in the space.

Yes, this is a laundry room, but bear with us for a moment: Can’t you see that vanity working perfectly in a master or even shared kids’ bathroom? Our client gave their Sektion bases a major upgrade for their fixer upper project, transforming them with our Semihandmade Supermatte Slab cabinet fronts in Juniper for doors and drawers, accented with simple metallic hardware. Green is having a moment in every room in the house, and we can easily see this look translating to a bathroom. We’d swap out the faucet for something on the smaller side in a bathroom setting, but the tile selection, white countertops, and backsplash all perfectly fit the bill.

If you’ve ever dreamed of turning your master bathroom into more of a spa-like experience, look no further than this Semihandmade client’s project. Once again proving that Ikea kitchen cabinets are a great solution for bathroom storage, this renovation used bases from the Sektion line to create a blend of drawers (large and small) and spacious cabinets. Covered with our texture-rich Tahoe Impression door fronts, this client’s piece is complemented with dark hardware, a stone countertop, and chic lighting. The entire space has us inspired to create a full master bath oasis.

This Semihandmade client has mastered the black and white look. With the help of Ikea’s Sektion bases, this double-sink vanity design features shelving, drawers, and cabinets, perfect for stashing towels and toiletry essentials and sleekly finished with our classic DIY Shaker Fronts in a crisp white hue. The chrome accents, stone finishes, and industrial details in this space are envy-inducing and eye-catching all at once.

While Ikea’s trusty Godmorgon collection boasts great form and function, we think the Sektion line is giving it some serious competition in the washroom department, especially in terms of storage and customization options.

Feeling inspired to take these classic kitchen cabinets into your own bathroom space? We recommend you start by browsing our Semihandmade Sektion options for drawers and doors. You can stick to one of our classic finishes or go the DIY route, choosing any paint color you’d like for even more creative flexibility. Of course, don’t forget to finish the look with our hardware selection and floating shelves, and tag us in your renovation adventures at @semihandmade.
