Between the rise of remote working and the management of busy kids and family, a home office has never been more essential. While mahogany-clad libraries and massive desks to fit those 90s modems are things of the past, the options for modern-day workspaces at home continue to evolve.
At Semihandmade, we’re consistently impressed by our clients and their creative use of Ikea cabinetry with our fronts and hardware. It’s no surprise that a multitude of DIYers have totally nailed it with their own home work stations, using the Ikea Sektion line to create absolutely swoon-worthy spaces for getting down to business. Many have carved out a spot within their kitchen or laundry room design, while others have made the most of a bare wall to build their dream desk. We’ve collected our favorite client office projects using Semihandmade and Ikea’s Sektion line here to get your creative wheels turning, and even get the look yourselves.

Semihandmade client and blogger behind Making Joy and Pretty Things, Sarah utilized Sektion cabinets to take an unassuming wall to new heights. To maximize space, she says, “we used Ikea Sektion pantry cabinets to give us a ton of storage.” Her design paired the pantry cabinets with drawers and modern open shelving, creating the perfect balance of function and decorative moments. After choosing our DIY shaker fronts, Sarah painted them in the glossy, modern High Park from Benjamin Moore, and complemented them with sleek metallic hardware from Rejuvenation.

Design duo Chris and Julia Marcum are Semihandmade rockstars (they did design a line for us after all), so it comes as no surprise that this envy-inducing workspace belongs to them. When creating their home office, they turned to Ikea’s Sektion collection and our slab drawer fronts in Supermatte White to DIY their standing desk, a must for the couple in their shared space. Chris and Julia managed to sleekly conceal their cords and build a piece at the perfect height, while the drawers offer storage for “art and office supplies, wrapping paper, etc.”

This New York home workspace is the perfect example of getting creative with Ikea Sektion and Semihandmade doors. Alive + Kicking Design built out a combination of cabinets and drawers for storage and organization that define the work area, while a free-standing desk keeps the look unique and clutter-free. Using our DIY Shaker fronts, they went with Benjamin Moore Puritan Gray paint to add color and modernity to the space.

Fashion designer Adam Lippes’ home featured in Architectural Digest is a thing of beauty, his Semihandmade kitchen included. Not only did he truly make the space his own with his layout and finishes, he also cleverly made way for a convenient work area that doubles as extra counter space. The stylish stool underneath provides seating for a sous chef or for busy days of paperwork at home, while our Supermatte Black Shaker doors tie the whole look together.

While our clients Jessica and Tyler of @renovate108 are still putting the final touches on their workspace, we are already enamored with the progress. They are totally transforming their California home, and this project is their latest feat. They have transformed two closets into what they call their “megadesk”, complete with open shelving, and multiple drawers and cabinets using Ikea’s Sektion line and Semihandmade DIY Slab and Shaker fronts painted in a mix of Brandy Cream and Dusty Trail from Benjamin Moore. We can’t wait to see the finished project.
In the meantime, if you haven’t seen their kitchen transformation yet, be sure to check it out.

Semihandmade client Andria of @ohhhgeezlouise managed to maximize the space and function in her laundry room project. The cabinetry is all from (you guessed it) Ikea’s Sektion collection, and the doors are our White Shaker style. The space gets more done than laundry with the subtly built-in desk, complete with a classic black stool and a continuous wood countertop to keep the whole look clean and cohesive.
Between multipurpose rooms, dedicated offices, and transformed corners, our clients know how to make the most of a workspace. If you’re as inspired as we are to achieve your ultimate home office #goals, get the look with our Semihandmade doors for Ikea’s Sektion cabinets, hardware, and floating shelves for your working essentials.
